Details on Tides and Storms
The
Northeast Coast of Florida,
in the Jacksonville/Atlantic Beach/St. Augustine
region enjoys year round warm temperatures. Basically, there
are three seasons, Spring, Summer and Fall. Classified as a
semi-tropical climate with hot and humid summers, the
northeast coast receives lots of showers and thunderstorms
in the summer, and cooling ocean breezes helps moderate
temperatures. Thunderstorms are usually localized and short,
and therefore do not interfere with outdoor plans too much.
In winter, prevailing winds from the north keeps it a few
degrees cooler than southern Florida. The rainy season runs
May through October, with September generally being the
wettest month. Winters are sunny, dry and mild with cool
evenings.
St. Augustine
Beach is an area of tropical climate, coastal breezes and
warmth. Located on Anastasia Island between the Matanzas
River and the Atlantic Ocean, the area is warmed by
Florida's famous sunshine and cooled by breezes coming in
off of the Atlantic. Due to the curve of Florida's
coastline, Anastasia Island is subject to summer tropical
storms but not direct hurricane landfall. The temperature is
cooler than in southern Florida cities with an average mean
temperature of 79 degrees. Most days are sunny and
delightful!
On
average there are 24 days of each month in winter that are
dry.
